Theories and evidence of agency problems and firm performance at for-profit, not-for-profit, and mutual organizations; internal discipline of managerial performance derived from ownership structure, boards of directors, incentive compensation, and debt financing; external discipline derived from regulation and markets for products, capital, labor, and donors.
